A loan of $950 helped to purchase seeds, agricultural supplies, fertilizer, and chicken feed.

Rosa Melida's story

In the Crucita parish in the Portoviejo canton there is a place known as Los Arenales. Every fifteen days the members of the Nueva Generación community bank meet there. It is known for its beautiful beaches, its cuisine, and the warmth of its people.

Rosa is 56 years old and lives in a common law marriage. She has a 26 year old daughter who is married and lives in her home with all of her family. Her husband is a farmer.

Rosa is a good woman who works with her husband as a farmer. They cultivate short cycle crops such as melon, rice, corn, and peppers. She also works raising chickens, which she has a small farm to do. At this time of year, she sells many chickens at a good price. They work from Monday to Friday from 7:00am until 4:00pm. They work with two people who are paid a weekly salary. They sell their harvest to merchants to come to their home and do the same with the chickens. They also sell by the pound to their neighbors.

She will use this loan to purchase seeds, agricultural supplies, and fertilizer since they are getting close to the winter when they do the most planting. She will also purchase chicken feed.

Her dreams are to succeed and that she and her family enjoy good health.
