A loan of $1,825 helped a member to buy condiments.

Confiance Group's story

The nine members of the Confiance group are mainly married women who average 33 years of age with an average of three children each. Most of them live in monogamous families in Ouayerma 1, one of the working class districts of the town of Sikasso. They are on their 17th loan with the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, with a view to satisfying their customer demand.

Kadi buys and sells condiments via this group of women from the ADEF. She is standing in the middle of the photo. With her loan she is planning to buy five cartons of tomato puree, one carton of "Maggi" stock cubes and a one liter container of oil which she will resell on a retail basis for cash. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 25,000FCFA, part of which will be used to repay her loan and the interest on it; she will save the rest.
