A loan of $500 helped a member to buy piglets to raise and eventually sell.

Sina's Group's story

Sina, age 51, is a rural villager from the Bakan district. She has made a living through farming rice and weaving broom. Having been in this business for thirty years, she is able to earn about 14,000 KHR per day and manages to save about 4,000 KHR each day after daily expenses. She and her husband have three children, one of whom is dependent on her and still in school. This is the fourth loan for Sina with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She has fully repaid her previous loans, which have helped her to relieve her family’s burden and improve her livelihood. She is the leader of this group of two, and each of the group members is requesting a loan of 1,000,000 KHR. Sina will use her portion to buy piglets to raise in order to earn additional income for her family.

She is confident that this loan will enable her to sufficiently fatten her pigs so that she can eventually sell them for a good price and improve her family's standard of living.
