Senghak's Group
In this Group: Senghak, Reout
Residing in a rural village of Battambang province’s Ek Phnom district in Cambodia, Senghak is 27 years of age and married. She has a son and a daughter, both of whom are her responsibility. One of her children is currently a student while the other one stays home to assist in the family’s businesses, which are rice-growing and bean-planting. To support the family, Senghak farms rice and plants bean while her husband catches fish and works for others as a paid worker to supplement the income. Together, this couple can earn around 30,000 KHR per day and save about 10,000 KHR after the daily expenses. Senghak, a fourth-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner), is leading a member who is a third-time borrower to apply for a loan in the amount of 1,400,000 KHR each. With the previous loans, the group leader Senghak was able to improve the family’s lifestyle. This time, she will use the requested loan portion to buy fertilizer, pesticide, and bean seeds to support her current businesses. This hard-working woman (Senghak) believes that she will be able to improve her family’s living conditions even better after receiving her portion of the loan and using it in a smart manner. She is also willing to use the income generated by the current businesses to send all her kids to school and fully support their education.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
