A loan of $600 helped to buy compost.

Cirila's story

Cirila is 58 years old and is a sweet, friendly woman and she lives alone in her own home, located in Pampa Blanca. It’s been 27 years since she became a widow and she has five adult children, each with their own families.

Since her husband passed away, she has spent her time caring for her children and the crops that her husband used to tend. He taught her about the planting seasons and the types of soil that are best for each crop. This is why she has such coveted crops. Her secret is to let the land rest so that it can produce better nutrients. She sells her harvest in the Pampas market every weekend. When she has a large harvest, she sells to merchants in the nation’s capital, where food arrives from the other cities.

She also has cattle and chickens, which help provide another income. She sells the cattle, when they are fattened up, to butches who visit the zone, and sells eggs to the people in town. She is a member of the “Pampa Blanca” communal bank and this will be her 9th loan through MFP, where she is happy. She has been working with the association for many years, and the members are very human and above all want to help one another.

Cirila will use the money from this loan to buy compost for her next crop.
