A loan of $600 helped to buy fertilizer.

Antonia's story

Antonia is 34 years old and a woman to be admired. She lives with her husband of 12 years, Alberto. They have four children and care for them in their rented home, located in Pampa Blanca.

When the day begins, Antonia goes out to gather firewood which she uses to cooks her food. “I like to prepare in a natural way because I don’t like modern kitchens.” This is why she gathers fallen branches. At times she takes advantage of the pastures to feed her cows of which she has 5 from good stock; she buys and sells them. Like a good child of the fields, she also raises crops on rented land. She grows potatoes, corn, quinine, and peas, and cares for them with dedication in the evenings

She says that during the potato harvesting season, she takes them to the nation’s capital where she can find good buyers and keeps the other vegetables to sell in her own town, where she has steady customers.

She has many plans at the moment. One of them is to build a house of her own and begin saving money for her own farmland. She is a member of the “Pampa Blanca” communal bank and this will be her 9th loan through MFP. She is happy there and has been working with the association for many years. The other members are very human and above all have a great desire to help one another. Antonia will use the money from this loan to buy bird guano (fertilizer) for her next harvest.
