A loan of $850 helped a member to pay harvesting fees and buy rice seed and fertilizer.

Mok's Group's story

Mok is a rural villager from the Moung Russey district of Battambang Province. He has three children to care for; one is a schoolboy, and the other two are too young for school. To support the entire household, he and his wife grow paddy rice on two hectares and sesame on one hectare of farmland. This is the business that he has been in for ten years, and he is able to earn up to 19,700 KHR per day. This is his third loan cycle with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. The past loans, which he has repaid, have changed his living conditions at a good pace and improved his family’s livelihood. Now he is in need of working capital for his business. He has formed a group of three borrowers to apply for a new loan. He and one of his co-borrowers are seeking 1,200,000 KHR each, while the other group member is seeking 1,000,000 KHR. He is going to spend his loan portion, as the leader, to pay harvesting fees and buy rice seed and fertilizer to replant his paddy for the upcoming season. He keenly hopes that he can have sufficient capital to pay the labor costs to harvest on time and increase his yield, so he can double his income and improve his lifestyle.
