A loan of $700 helped a member to pay for labor that will assist her in harvesting her rice crop.

Saran's Group's story

Saran is the leader of Saran's Group. A rural villager from Battambang Province’s Moung Russey district, Saran is 44 years old and married. She has five children whom she needs to support since they are still in school. To tackle the daily cost of living, she does crop husbandry (rice-farming) on 3.5 hectares of farmland. She has done this for 13 years and it has returned income of about KHR 26,300 per day.

Three loan cycles ago was her original loan with VisionFund Cambodia, Kiva’s partner. She has used her loans in a smart way, promptly supporting her business and obtaining a better standard of living.

Now, Saran and her co-borrower have formed a group of two (Saran's Group), to apply for a new loan from VisionFund Cambodia since they are in need of working capital for their businesses. Each of them is seeking a loan of KHR 1,400,000 (collectively, KHR 2,800,000).

As the leader, Saran is going to use her portion to pay for labor that helps her harvest her rice paddy. She expects to gain more profit from her business, so she can increase her income for the sake of her children’s education.
