A loan of $550 helped to buy sweet treats, candies, iced treats, etc.

Carmen Adelaida's story

The 'De Colorado' community bank meets every two weeks in Colorado, in Montecristi canton. This area is noted for its rich pre-colonial culture and also for its handicrafts which are well known both at home and abroad. It is home to the famous Panama hat.

This is where Carmen lives. She is 55 years old, married, and has six children who are all adults. Four of her children still live with her. Her husband no longer works as he suffered an accident.

In order to provide for her family, Carmen set up a small bar in her home where she sells iced treats, colas, snacks and candies. She set up her business as her house is located opposite a school and the kids love all these products. This means that her sales are guaranteed. Carmen works every day from 6.00am to 6.00pm which is when the school kids are about. Thanks to the loans that she has received from the institution, she has been able to finance her small business which helps her so much in providing for her family's daily needs.

Carmen will use this loan to buy sweet treats, candies, iced treats and other products that she sells. She has been a member of her community bank for four years and likes it because of the help and support she receives from the bank.

Carmen's dream is to continue expanding her business.
