Dolores Del Rocio's story

The members of La California Communal Bank meet every two weeks in the Nueva California residential development in the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí, known for many years as the City of the Royal Tamarinds.

Sra. Dolores is 42 years old, married and has two children, 17 and 12 years old, who are students. Her husband is a taxi driver.

Doña Dolores is a woman who likes to get ahead on her own merits. She has a small restaurant in her home where she works everyday, preparing breakfasts, lunches and, on certain days, light meals. She always varies the menu since she knows, more of less, the tastes of her clients. Also, she prepares a delicious Creole chicken soup, a delicious duck soup and dried swordfish on Sundays because these dishes are preferred by her customers. She is helped by her sister, whom she pays for her work. She has run this business for more than 8 years and it gives her a great deal of satisfaction.

This loan is to purchases the ingredients to prepare her food. She has been a member of the communal bank for more than two years and she enjoys it because of the loans, which have enabled her to improve her business.

Her dream is to own a large restaurant.
