Joshua is a thirty-year-old farmer in Kisii county, Kenya. He lives with his wife and four children, of whom three have started schooling. He has been involved in farming for the past five years, producing milk, beans, bananas and maize which he sells at the local market in his area. He owns a motorbike for public transportation as an additional source of income.
He is requesting for an 60,000 KES loan from Juhudi kilimo which he will use to purchase a dairy cow that will give him more milk. Hence earning him extra money that will help him uplift his livelihood and use some of this money to pay for his children's schooling.
His major challenges in farming include poor road networks and lack of a readily available market.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
