Pheap, aged 49, resides in a rural village of Samrong district, located in Cambodia’s Takeo province. She is married and the mother of five children, two of whom (a daughter and a son) are school-age children and still dependent on her. Pheap and her husband earn a living for the family by working as rice farmers. Having been in the business for about 29 years, she manages to earn about US $8.50 per day to meet her daily needs and is able to save about US $4 each day for the family's future needs.

This is Pheap’s first loan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. This hard-working mother will utilize the requested loan to pay the tuition fees for her daughter’s university education. This loan will enable her daughter to have an opportunity for higher education. Pheap’s biggest hope is to support and keep her daughter in university to pursue her bachelor's degree in finance and banking so she will have a good job after graduation and a bright future.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
