A loan of $675 helped to buy guinea pigs, chickens, and construction materials.

Carmen Alegria's story

Carmen is on her fourth loan in Nuevo Bankito la Ramada Communal Bank. They live in Nabón Canton, where the scenery is beautiful thanks to the rugged geography. The people there are warm-hearted and still keep their culture and traditions alive.

Carmen, 51, is separated from her husband but had four children in her marriage. Two of them are married and live independently, one works and helps her financially, and her last child studies in a school in town. The house she lives in is her own.

Carmen spends most of her time at home but to pay for the household expenses she raises animals: sheep, guinea pigs, and chickens. She also works in agriculture and sells her harvests.

She's going to invest her new loan in buying guinea pigs, chickens, and construction materials to fix up her house.
