Betty's story

Betty is 31 years old and lives in the Luwero region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 2 years, she has been working hard to manage her pharmacy, which sells drugs. To help expand her business, Betty has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more products such as pampers, cotton wool, panadol and septrine, and will help Betty to generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. She hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a clinic. Betty is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Betty who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
