Yolanda's story

Yolanda is a 22 year old young woman. She is single and lives in Sololá, along with her parents and four siblings. They all work together to provide financial support for the family.

She is a farmer and raises carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and thyme, on parcels of land they have around their home. She learned this from her parents when she was a little girl and worked half a day and went to school the other half. She has been working independently in the fields for one year, since she finished school. This is because of the lack of employment opportunities. She decided to start her own crop which has become her main source of income.

She has seen that the income from farming is good and she wants to expand her crops. She is asking for a loan of Q 3,500 to buy potato and carrot seeds and fertilizer that she needs to raise her crops, have successful sales, and increase her and her family’s income.

She dreams of continuing to work and helping her family improve their quality of life, as well as supporting the rest of her siblings who are still in school
