A loan of $525 helped to buy fertilizer and pay labor costs.

Mirtala's story

Mirtala, 23, is married and has two children. She lives in the company of her family in a community in the municipality of Victoria, Yoro Department. Mirtala learned agriculture from her parents when she was still very little and at the moment works growing corn to sell. She decided to get an ODEF loan for 10,000 Lempiras to pay labor costs and buy fertilizer and other supplies to provide corn crop care. She states that she’s encouraged because she used to get money from private individuals in her community at very high interest rates. She hopes to improve her productive yields and the quality of the grain which will lead to higher income. With profits earned, Mirtala intends to help pay for her children’s preschool.
