Josefina's story

Josefina, 41, is considered to be a good example of a hardworking, enterprising woman. She shares a beautiful married life with Máximo and is proud to have been the mother of five self-sacrificing children three of which are still school age; they have all the support they need.

With the firm support of her husband she managed to finish building her house out of substantial materials. Since she was a little girl still living with her family she started working in agriculture on some and they were given; they grew organic cocoa beans. Currently, she grows quality cocoa beans which are symbolic of the region. However, to retain that level she must be able to count on capital to hire day laborers to help her weed and to apply organic manure to fertilize the soil.

With the life experience she has, she wants to provide her children with all necessary support so they can become upstanding citizens based on the best possible weapon: education. This, then, is her great motivator to rise every morning to carry out this self-sacrificing work. She hopes with the 3,000 new soles to hire day laborers for the first seasonal weeding as well as to buy bird guano to use as organic manure to guarantee a high quality harvest.
