Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Ummi's story

Ummi lives in Mombasa area of Coast province. She is a mother of two school children. She operates a hawking business which has been in operation for three years now. She started the business through her own little savings. In this business she sells clothes, sanitary pads etc.
She learnt about Milango through friends who invited her to the group and she joined with the aim of accessing credit to improve the operation of the business. The challenges she is facing are seasonal business climate, high cost of purchasing stock and finding customers.
Ummi is applying for a loan of 21,100 Kenya shillings to buy additional stock of second hand clothes. Her extra income from the loan will be added to savings to expand her business and for personal use. Her future plan is to buy a public service vehicle.
