A loan of $525 helped a member to buy more soft drinks.

Oliver's Group's story

Oliver's group is comprised of 3 hardworking women. Oliver, 22 years old, lives in the town of Kamwenge in the Fort Portal region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children, one of them currently in school. For the past 2 years, Oliver has been working hard to manage her small shop, which sells soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Oliver has requested a loan of 200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more soft drinks, such as lemonade and passion juice, and will help Oliver to generate greater profits and develop herself more in her business and in providing good basic needs. Oliver hopes that, in the future, she will be able to own a farm that rears chickens and goats.

Oliver is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
