A loan of $1,000 helped a member to purchase fertilizer.

Reouy's Group's story

Reouy is a 51-year-old villager who resides in a rural village of the Thmor Koul district located in Battambang province, Cambodia. She is married and the mother of four children, one of whom (a daughter) is dependent on her and still attends school.

Reouy farms rice on a three-hectare plot of land while her husband works as a paid worker. Together, they are able to earn around 14,000 KHR daily and to save approximately 5,000 KHR after accounting for the daily cost of living. This will be Reouy’s eighth time requesting a loan from VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The previous loans have helped her improve her family’s living standards.

Now, she is leading a loan group comprised of four female members in order to take out a loan in the amount of 1,000,000 KHR each. As the group representative, Reouy, will use her loan portion to support her rice-growing business by purchasing fertilizer. After receiving and using the loan as she plans, Reouy believes that her rice field will provide her with a good-quality crop so that she can sell it at a good price, generating more income to the family. She will also use the income to keep her dependent child in school.

In this group: Reouy, Saroum, Chariya, Kleng
