A loan of $775 helped to buy ingredients.

Rosa María's story

The members of the La Cantera communal bank meet every two weeks in the area known as El Cady in the city of Portoviejo. Most of the people here are farmers.

Rosa lives here. She is 54 years old, married, and has seven adult children on their own. Only the youngest one still lives at home. Her husband is a farmer.

Rosa is a woman who puts forth great effort and loves to value herself by the effort she puts into her work to help her husband, who does not earn much through his field tasks. She makes “bollo” that her husband delivers to different cities like Manta and Portoviejo. She also sells out of her home, where many people go to sample this delicious, and very typical dish in our province. This has helped her family get ahead, as there are times when her husband doesn’t have work and can’t feed the family.

She will use the money from this loan to buy “mani,” now that the winter is coming and it gets expensive. This will be her second cycle with the communal bank and she likes the loans that help her very much in her business. Her dreams are to get ahead and that her family remains in good health.
