A loan of $3,925 helped a member to buy grocery items at wholesale.

Las Perlas Group's story

The “Las Perlas” (Pearls) communal bank has 8 members, seven women and one man. The bank president is Deisy, 40. She’s married and has three children aged 15, 12 and 8; all attend school. She sells groceries, an activity she’s been in for many years. Her store is in La Guardia and she will use the loan to buy groceries like sugar, rice and oil in quantity and at wholesale. Her reason for requesting this loan is that she lacks capital to buy merchandise to stock her store and this is the only activity she has that makes it possible for her to support herself and support her family which is why she feels happy and grateful to the institution for the support provided.
