A loan of $350 helped to buy beef, sausages and sauces in larger amounts.

Ernesto's story

When Ernesto completed his military service with the Colombian Army he was unable to find employment so decided to start his own business venture because he needed to generate income to cover his and his family’s expenses. This was how he started his hot-dog business that he added soft-drinks to. Gradually his clientele grew and he started to add more products like sausages, skewered meat and arepas. He’s been able to support himself this way and an enormous wish to widen his possibilities of earning more money has been born in him.

Weekends are when his sales increase and this is because families buy ready-made food so the women of the house can rest a bit from their cooking chores. He is preparing for the Christmas and New Year’s festivities which is the season when sales are the best. He does not want to miss out on it because of insufficient capital to buy the necessary ingredients to make his products and increase sales.

This is the reason why he’s turning to a Kiva loan to buy beef, sausages and sauces in larger amounts to qualify for volume and cash purchase discounts. In this way his Kiva loan will be successful because it favors his business’ development and increases his possibility of earning much more money which will lead to better living conditions.
