Annet's Group

Uganda
Hima, Uganda / Food Production/Sales

A loan of $1,425 helped a member to purchase more foods, such as dry beans and maize, to be sold.

Annet's Group's story

Annet's Group is comprised of six hard working women. Annet is 22 years old and lives in the town of Hima in the Fortportal region of Uganda. She is marreid and has two children who are all currently in school. For the past five years, Annet has been working hard to manage her small business, through which she sells dry food.

To help expand her business, Annet has requested a loan of 700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more foods such as dry beans and maize to be sold, and will help Annet to generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. Annet hopes that in the future she will be able to build a house of her own.

Annet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life skills training.
