A loan of $500 helped a member to buy fertilizer.

Sambo's Group's story

A resident residing in a rural village of Moung Russey district located in Battambang province, Cambodia, Sambo is a 31-year-old married woman with three dependent children, all of whom are school-aged. Sambo earns the living for her family by working as a rice farmer on a three-hectare farmland, earning around 11,000 KHR per day and managing to save approximately 6,000 KHR after offsetting the daily cost of living.

She, a first-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner), is leading a group member who is an eighth-time borrower to seek a loan in the amount of 1,000,000 KHR each. To support her rice-growing business, the business which provides the main source of income for the family, the group representative Sambo will spend her loan portion on buying fertilizer. This industrious woman expects a boost in her income so that she can use it to pursue her children’s education and, hopefully, be able to save some money to build a warm house for her family in the future.
