A loan of $400 helped building materials and ingredients.

Maria's story

Maria is 59 years old and is a happy, dynamic, enterprising woman. She’s divorced and lives with her two adult children, ages 31 and 25, in a home of their own that she and her ex-husband built. Maria sells food and drinks out of her home on the weekends. She also sells at fairs in her neighborhood. She has the support of her children and they help her prepare the food and serve customers. She also sells soft drinks on weekdays and has a refrigerator that she bought with her savings. What she likes about her work is that it allows her to have an income. What she doesn’t like is that the prices for her supplies go up and this affects her profits. She continues to make an effort, thanks to the fact that her stall is well visited and she has a great desire to expand her business. She will use the 1000 PEN from this loan to buy supplies to fix the roof at her business. She will use the rest to buy ingredients to prepare her parrilladas.
