A loan of $200 helped to increase her stock of plantains and tomatoes for resale.

Marguerite's story

Marguerite is 44 years old and the mother of a family. She is a merchant and has sold various food items (tomatoes, potatoes, cocoyams, manioc, plantains, palm nuts, and fruit) at retail on a seasonal basis at a local market for 16 years. She has a good knowledge of the suppliers and especially her customers, whom she has acquired over time thanks to her experience in this business. However, she constantly faces stock shortages because she needs to sell her entire stock in order to buy new supplies, due to the small amount of capital she has. With this loan, she hopes to buy bunches of plantains and bags of tomatoes to build a larger stock, which will allow her to better satisfy her customers' constant needs and avoid stock shortages. She will save her profits not only to expand her business but also to provide for her family.
