Lucia's story

Lucia is 44 years old and an educator by profession. She previously suffered from a weight problem before starting to improve her health. Five years later, she began working with other people in the communities of Poás and Grecia. Lucia started a health, beauty, and wellness company and began working in different communities in the two cantons mentioned before. Her clientele includes 80 women and is growing. She provides support through exercise, motivation, and other aspects that focus on improving her clients’ quality of life and that of their families. Lucia presents herself as a hardworking woman. She wants to support other women as they improve their quality of life through exercise and motivation. Lucia currently lives with her two daughters in the District of Grecia in Alajuela Province.

Lucia started down the road of self-improvement through her work as an educator. Even though she did not exercise, she was able to improve her own health and that of her oldest daughter. By watching television, Lucia learned about the services offered by Fundación Mujer. With her two previous loans, Lucia was able to secure equipment and a vehicle so that she could provide better service to her clients. She has demonstrated an excellent payment history and growth as a micro-entrepreneur. In order to serve other groups in the District of Grecia, Lucia plans to invest in uniforms and audiovisual equipment for the classes that she will conduct.

Lucia meets with groups of women Monday through Friday. She conducts seminars and exercise sessions in the neighborhoods and communities of Poás and Grecia. Her daughters help with the business since it is the main source of household income. Lucia wants to grow with this investment now that she has equipment for her classes and a vehicle for traveling to the various communities. She has also been able to conduct annual events with the support of the local municipalities and the Ministry of Health. Her business shows potential for good growth projection.
