Margret

Uganda
Kachwamba, Uganda / General Store

A loan of $750 helped to buy more essential commodities, such as milk, cooking oil, sugar, and salt for resale.

Margret's story

Margret is 35 years old and lives in the town of Kachwamba in the Fortportal region of Uganda. She is single and has two children, one of whom is currently in school. For the past ten years, Margret has been working hard to manage her retail shop in which she sells sugar, salt, and cooking oil.

To help expand her business, Margret has requested a loan of 2000000 UGX (Ugandan shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more essential commodities, such as milk, cooking oil, sugar, and salt for resale and will help Margret to generate greater profits and pay for family medical expenses and food. Margret hopes that in the future she will be able to own a farm of cows.

Margret is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs, like Margret, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
