A loan of $450 helped to buy all types of clothing.

Petita's story

The “Madre Para Un Futuro Mejor” communal bank meets every two weeks in the “24 de Mayo” settlement, located in the Manabí province, known for its beautiful landscape, its forests, variety of fauna, and for its friendly, hardworking people dedicated to farming and livestock.

Petita lives here. She is 81 years old, married, and had 13 children. Four of them passed away and the others are adults, two of them still live with her. Her husband is a merchant.

Petita, in order to help her husband who is very elderly, sells clothing of all types and has a shop in her home. She works from 8:00am to 6:00 pm and one of her daughter helps her. She receives her merchandise from the United States and a friend ships her all types of items. If not, she buys in Santo Domingo. She’s been doing this for 10 years and things are going well for her.

She will use the money from this loan to buy pants, shirts, blouses, children’s clothing, and undergarments. She has been with the communal bank since the beginning and likes being able to get loans.

Her dream is to have a great shop.
