A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase clothing, shoes, lotions, perfumes and ladies' accessories.

Angelica Liliana's story

The canton 24 De Mayo, of Manabí Province, is known for its beautiful landscapes and forests, its variety of fauna and its hardworking people. The people make their livings in agriculture and raising animals. It is here that the communal bank "Madre Para Un Futuro Mejor." (Mothers for a Better Future) meets every two weeks.

This is where we find Señora Angélica. She is 37 years old and divorced. She had two children from her marriage. They are 16 and 13 years old, and go to school.

In order to get ahead and ensure that her children have everything they need, doña Angelica went into business selling clothing, shoes and Avon and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and ladies' accessories). She sells door to door and also from her home, where she has a small shop set up. Most of her customers come to her home to make their orders and purchases. Doña Angelica works every day from 8:30am - 4:00pm. She sells on credit and also on cash sales. Her sister sends her the products from Guayaquil. Doña Angelica has made her living in this business for more than ten years, and it has allowed her to get ahead, and raise her children alone.

This loan is for the purchase of clothing, shoes, lotions, perfumes and ladies' accessories. Doña Angelica has been a member of her communal bank for four years, and she likes it because the loans have improved her financial situation.

Doña Angelica's dream is to give her children all the best.
