A loan of $1,025 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize and sorghum.

Hosana Group's story

Hosana is a group of 24 farmers in Lugari District represented by Mercy, who is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. The group has 19 women and 6 men. From her loan, Mercy will receive a half acre worth of seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize and sorghum. The 2013 rain season will be Mercy’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer at the best prices and with reliable delivery.

Mercy described her harvest last year as good, but hopes she can have an even better one as a One Acre Fund farmer. She plans to spend the money that she earns from her next harvest on sending her children to school, saving for the future, engaging in poultry farming and buying livestock. For the 2013 rain season, Mercy’s group members will each take loans for half an acre of land. In total, this group will receive loans for use on 12 acres of land.
