A loan of $925 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize and sorghum.

Furaha Group's story

Catherine is pictured on the right with her hand raised amongst her Furaha Group members. The 22 of them, 8 women and 14 men, are farmers in Lugari District. Catherine will grow maize and sorghum on a half acre of land using seeds and fertilizer delivered to her by One Acre Fund on credit. Catherine is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited about the 2013 rain season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for her family and will use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Catherine described her harvest last year as good, but she hopes she can have an even better one as a One Acre Fund farmer. She plans to spend the money that she earns from her next harvest on sending her children to school and buying livestock. For the 2013 rain season, Catherine’s group members will each take loans for half an acre of land. In total, this group will receive loans for use on 11 acres of land.
