Cruz Magdalena's story

Cruz is a cheerful and charming member of the Zhullin communal bank. She lives in the Tomebamba area of the the city of Cuenca, which is the capital of the province of Azuay, located in the southern part of Ecuador's Andean cordillera. Its historical center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in the year 1999.

Cruz is 50 years old, married and has three adult children who are adults and married. Two live independently, and one still lives in their home and shares the household expenses. Her husband is a driver by profession and works driving a taxi. The house where they live is rented.

Cruz started her business with the first loan she received. She sells clothing at her own shop that she has in the city's market. She also makes and sells jellies; work that she likes very much, and she has been in this business for 23 years. She works from Sunday to Sunday with no fixed hours.

Her loan is to buy clothing and plastic cups for her jellies.

Her goal is to expand her clothing business and have more variety for her customers.
