A loan of $950 helped to add another milk cow to her existing herd.

Marte's story

Marte has lived below the poverty level for years despite her efforts. Things took a better turn when she started running her livestock herding about eight years back. Since then, she has been selling milk and other dairy products to locals. Albanians consume lots of dairy products, thus, the need for dairy is always high especially in the northern regions where food products are scarce. Bread and cheese is considered a staple amongst many poor Albanian families. Marte is in need of a loan to buy another milk cow and she hopes that she will get some financial help from lenders. Being able to buy another cow would be her best gift these holidays, she said. Marte is married and has four children and this would be her second loan within the same institution.
