Emmanuel Musa's Group's story

Pictured here are teachers in the eastern city of Kenema. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of 6,500,000 SLL for the entire group. With the help of this loan, this group of teachers will be able to meet their immediate financial needs and at the end of each month, they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Emmanuel is the leader of this group. A native of Sienga in eastern Sierra Leone, Emmanuel is 39 years old. He is married to a trader and the couple has four children--two in secondary school, one in college, and one not attending school. Emmanuel has served in the teaching profession for 14 years now. With the help of this loan, he is going to buy electrical equipment to electrify his house and then use the remainder of the loan to buy a plot of land.
