Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $400 helped to buy farm inputs to grow corn, okra, and peppers.

Barthélémy's story

Barthélémy is 65 years old and is married to a woman named Clémentine. The couple has seven children, of whom some have been to school, and of whom five are still under their care. The family lives together. Barthélémy and his wife take care of the family's various expenses together. Barthélémy did not attend school.

To meet his different needs, Barthélémy has been farming for the past twenty or so years. He procures his supplies from an area in Benin.

To further strengthen his business in order to better meet the needs of his customers, Barthélémy is asking for financial assistance from Alidé for the fifth time, with the goal of cultivating corn, okra, and some peppers. His previous loans have all been repaid.
