A loan of $725 helped to purchase straw wholesale.

Alex Ivan's story

Young Alex is 21years old and a bachelor. He makes and sells straw mattresses, which are called “payasas”. The young man is very hardworking because he also works in a mill as an employee. He lives in the Kalajahuira area.

This is Alex’s first loan from Emprender. He will use it to purchase straw by the truckloands because at the end of the year the rainy season begins and the price of straw rises. This is the main material used to make the payasas. The reason he is requesting the loan is his need for cash.

Alex faces challenges in his business such as the beginning of the rainy season when he runs the risk of not obtaining straw, which is scarce at this time of year. As well his house is located near the river so that he has to produce more in order to secure the infrastructure of his dwelling. He will use his earnings to continue buying more straw in order to supply his business for three months. In addition, he will also purchase jute wholesale in order to reduce his costs.

Young Alex’s wish is to own an auto and to be able to transport his mattresses to distant cities and provinces in the interior such as Los Yungas and to Beni so that he can increase his income.
