Heras' Group's story

Heras is a 29 years-old, hard working, young Iraqi man. He is married and has three children.

Heras took a loan in the past, working hard towards his ambitious plans to provide for his family working in his own business. At the time he was an employee who was just starting to take steps towards having his business. He successfully repaid the previous loan and is now ready for a business loan to support the improvements he plans for his own business.

His own business activity, which he now has 2 years experience with, is a mechanic shop specializing in oil changes and tires. With both of these specialized services being greatly required in his hot dusty city, he is confident in the shop being able to generate enough income to support his family.

Heras is now taking a loan to be able to buy a compressor and special equipment for fixing tires.

Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor - thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of 3 to 5 clients and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
