A loan of $625 helped a member to purchase fertilizer and rice-seed.

Nan's Group's story

A resident of a rural village of Moung Russey district located in Cambodia’s Battambang province, Nan is 58 years of age and married. She has six children, one of whom (a daughter) is dependent on her and still in school. Nan offers a decent life for her family through farming rice on a four-hectare plot of farmland. Nan’s husband also assists in the rice-growing business, which is managed by his wife, and works one more job as a fisherman in order to earn extra income for the family. Together, they are able to earn around 28,000 KHR daily.

Nan’s challenge is the lack of working capital to support her rice field. Thus, Nan, a third-time borrower, is leading a loan group of three female members to take out a loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) in the amount of 2,500,000 KHR in total. To smoothly run and support her rice-growing business, group leader Nan will utilize her loan portion to purchase fertilizer and rice-seed. After receiving the loan and using it as she plans, Nan has high expectations that her rice field will provide her with a good quality crop so that she can sell it for a good price, generating more profit for the family. She will also use the anticipated income to keep her children in a good school.
