A loan of $800 helped to buy pork.

Estrella's story

Estrella, 53, is an unassuming woman. She lives with her two children: Wilfredo and Yamileth who she cares for in the house she bought ten years ago. Her economic activity for the last 20 years has been meat sales. She relates that her work consists in buying pigs in quantity especially the heaviest and healthiest ones. Once she acquires them, she butchers them to sell the meat in regional and district markets. She earns good profits and also takes advantage of the stand she has to also sell beauty products to customers that know her. She does very well with the business. “I sell more meat during festivals,” she affirms. She recently painted the space she will use to open her ‘chicharronería’ (a place where pork-based dishes are sold) to earn more profits because she’ll get the pork and will use it herself to prepare the dishes. She already started working and is doing very well since she’s located in a commercial zone.

She’s a member of the “IDME” communal bank and this is MFP loan #27. In all these years, she’s been able to improve her business because she used her money very intelligently. On the other hand, she once again promises to make her installment payments. Also, it pleases her to be part of her association where all the members are mutually supportive, “like a family,” she affirms. Estrella will use the money to buy pork which will be an ingredient for her chicharronería.
