A loan of $150 helped to purchase more vegetables to sell.

Barbara's story

Barbara's group is made up of hard working women. Barbara is 20 years old and lives in the town of Luwero in the Luwero region of Uganda. For the past two years, Barbara has been working hard to manage her vegetable stall, which sells matooke (similar to plantains) and greens.

To help expand her business, Barbara has requested a loan of 400000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more vegetables to sell and will help Barbara generate greater profits and expand the business. Barbara hopes that in the future she will be able to add to the business.

Barbara is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
