A loan of $175 helped to get a watering can for her farming business.

Cissy's story

Cissy's group is made up of hard working women. Cissy is 22 years old and lives in the town of Luwero in the Luwero region of Uganda. She is single and has two children; one of them is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Cissy has been working hard to manage her farming business, which deals in maize and beans.

To help expand her business, Cissy has requested a loan of 450000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to get a watering can for her farming business, and will help Cissy to generate greater profits and expand in farming. Cissy hopes that in the future she will be able to widen the farm for other produce.

Cissy is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
