Panua Akili Group's story

Edrick's group has 24 farmers and is located in Lugari District. Edrick is pictured on the right of Panua Akili Group with her hand raised. Edrick is a returning One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in 2012 in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and to learn technical farming skills. Prior to being a member of One Acre Fund, Edrick averaged 4 bags per 1/2 acre. In her 1/2 acre OAF maize plot last year, she harvested 8 bags.

Edrick described her harvest as very good last year, but believes she can have an even better one this year. She plans to spend the money that she earns from her next harvest on sending her children to school and perhaps investing in another business. She has also indicated her desire to continue working with One Acre Fund. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Edrick’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 12 acres of land.
