Marine's story

Marine is 60 years old and lives in Kutaisi with her 39-year-old son. Marine works as a saleslady at the newspaper stand and gets a small monthly salary. As her income is not enough even for food and everyday expenses, Marine decided to start up a new business. She requested a loan from a local financial institutions to start trading, but without success. Her loan request was rejected because of her low income and insufficient experience in her business. However, her loan request was approved through a new joint initiative of Kiva and Credo. The program provides start-up and re-startup credits with soft conditions to the country's rural poor. These people do not have access to traditional credit products, being regarded as “high risk borrowers” because of their low income. Marine requested a loan to purchase tobacco which she will sell from her stand. Marine plans to increase the turnover in her trade business gradually. This will raise the income of the family, which she will use to improve the family’s living conditions. She awaits your support.
