Bikaromat has turned to MDO Arvand for a loan so she can boost her fruit and vegetable vending business. The holiday season starts in December and she wants to increase capital and profits so she can buy new goods before New Year's. At present she has few customers and not much produce; she'll need to buy some more fruits and vegetables to stock up. Because of her age and health, Bikaromat isn't able to go for produce by herself, so her daughter helps her out by going for the produce herself, taking along the order from her mother. Now Bikaromat would like a loan which she plans to use to buy bananas, tangerines, apples and grapes. She is grateful for the financial support.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
