A loan of $300 helped to buy tires and ingredients to make shaved ice.

Rebeca Regina's story

Rebeca, 38, is married and from León; she’s the mother of four children who are 21, 19, 17 and 16, respectively. She works selling shaved ice with milk, honey, coconut and fruit. She started at the age of 22. Her mother was very poor and was unable to pay for her schooling so she decided to work selling shaved ice for a neighbor. When she got pregnant with her first child, she needed to find a way to increase income to cover expenses. Her husband and she built their first cart to start their own shaved ice business and sell it from place to place. With profits earned they invested and built another cart to sell shaved ice; she and her oldest son use this one to work. Everyone in the family supports each other to get ahead and earn a living honestly. She needs this loan to buy tires for the carts and raw materials like milk, sugar, fruit and packaging to sell the shaved ice. Her idea for the future is to open a well-furnished shaved ice stand at home.
