Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,125 helped to buy sugar, soap, salt and other commodities to resell.

Godfrey's story

Godfrey is 45 years old and lives in the town of Kayunga in the Mukono region of Uganda. He is married and has 5 children who are all currently in school. For the past 10 years, Godfrey has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells sugar, soap and salt.

To help expand his business, Godfrey has requested a loan of 3,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sugar, soap, salt and other commodities to resell. This inventory boost will help Godfrey generate greater profits and produce quality products. Godfrey hopes that in the future he will be able to produce more quality products.

Godfrey is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). This program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Godfrey who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
