A loan of $525 helped to buy potato seed and fertilizer for growing crops.

Mateo's story

Mateo is a married, 34-year-old farmer who lives in Sololá. He has seven children, of which there are three boys and four girls. Four of them study in a local school and in their free time they help him in the field.

He works in agriculture, growing onions, potatoes, carrots, green beans, and broccoli. He grows these on plots of land which are a few kilometers from his home.

He learned this trade while working alongside others who needed help in the fields. He has been working since he was a young boy without having the opportunity to study at his local school. He has been growing his own crops for six years now. Seeing that he is making good profits from growing these vegetables, he is requesting a loan of 4,000 Quetzales so that he will be able to buy fertilizer and potato seeds to later grow and harvest. This will increase his family's income. He wants to expand his crops onto more plots of land.

His biggest dream is to be able to provide his children with an education so that together they can prosper.
