A loan of $2,275 helped a member purchase spare parts for resale.

Urbanisacion Leon Group's story

The communal bank, Urbanizacion Leon will start its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Los Andes. It is comprised of seven members and is led by a board of directors, of which Andrea is the president. The businesses that the communal bank members run are varied and include: clothing sales, chocolate sales, fabric blankets, (cooking) oil sales, shoe sales, and the buying and selling of spare parts.

This loan will benefit the small businesses in their distinct areas. Andrea is a member; she says that she joined Pro Mujer a year ago, joining because of an invitation from a friend who is a member of the organization. Now she (Andrea) has a business buying and selling spare parts. She says that she started this business with her husband, and they are working together.

The loan that they will now take out is to increase their capital to purchase spare parts that they will get at stores that sell the parts wholesale. They (Andrea and her husband) will later sell the parts in their store. This work helps them generate income to help support their household; Andrea is married and has six children.

When ask what she likes about Pro Mujer, Andrea said that she likes the loans that are made through the group.

In this group: Andrea Trifonia, Jubithza Estefany, Benedicta, Eusebia, Juana, Antonia, Elvira
